The 2021 Ballon d'Or award ceremony is set to take place next month and the name of the winner of the award has been a constant source of speculation with reports emerging that the winner has already been determined.
Argentina icon, Lionel Messi who is being touted as the favourite to win his seventh such honour has if reports are to be believed already won the honour - though such claims have been branded as "bullsh**t" by the editor of France Football.
"That's a lot of bullsh*t we've seen in the past10days. A big bluff," France Football editor, Pascal Ferre told Bild when asked about the speculation.
The Argentinian is widely considered the favourite considering that he was in brilliant form for Barcelona last season, while also playing a key role in helping Argentina win their first Copa America title since 1993.
However, he faces serious competition from Bayern Munich striker, Robert Lewandowski who won the FIFA Best award in 2020 and has maintained remarkable standards in 2021 – hitting23 goals through 17 appearances this season.
Mohamed Salah has also come into the reckoning on the back of a stunning start to the 2021-22 campaign at Liverpool, with the Egyptian forward registering a number of spectacular strikes as he chases down a third Premier League Golden Boot.
