Manchester United legend Teddy Sheringham wants Michael Carrick to start Cristiano Ronaldo in their Premier League clash against Arsenal on Thursday.

Ronaldo has featured in 10 Premier League games for United this season, scoring four goals, but the Portuguese maestro was surprisingly left on the bench in Carrick's first game as interim boss against Chelsea on Sunday.

This decision baffled Roy Keane, who said, ‘Ronaldo has not come back to Manchester United to sit on the bench.’

And now, Sheringham has agreed with Keane stating that he would have started Ronaldo against Chelsea and that he should start against Arsenal.

"Yes, without a doubt," Sheringham told the Mirror when asked should Ronaldo start against the Gunners.

"I have to agree with Roy Keane in what he said the other night in that if you’ve got someone of Ronaldo’s ability, he’s come back to Manchester United to play in these big games, that’s what big players do, they perform at the top level in the big games.

"Chelsea the other night, he should’ve been playing. Arsenal, again, is a big game, they’re encroaching on the top four at the moment, it’s always a big game against Arsenal for Manchester United.

"You need your best players out there and he’s without a doubt one of their best players."

The Red Devils head into this game on the back just one win in their last eight Premier League games, which has left them 10th in the league standings.
