AS Roma completed the signing of Tammy Abraham from Chelsea recently, with the striker signed by Jose Mourinho to replace Edin Dzeko, who himself moved to Inter Milan in the summer transfer window.

Mourinho is not known for signing English players during his managerial career so far, with Abraham becoming only the seventh Englishman that he has brought in. Who were other six English players that he signed? and what happened to them? Let's take a look.

1. Ashley Cole (Chelsea)

The best English signing made by Mourinho during his career was that of Ashley Cole who joined Chelsea from Arsenal in 2006 - with the left-back going on to establish himself as a legend at Stamford Bridge.

Cole went on to spend eight years with the club, making 338 appearances and helping them win one Premier League title, four FA Cup's, the 2012 Champions League and the 2013 Europa League.

2. Shaun Wright-Philips (Chelsea)

The Portugese decided to sign Shaun Wright-Philips in 2005 after good performances for Manchester City and it is safe to say that he struggled at Stamford Bridge.

The winger surprisingly made 125 appearances, but managed to score only 10 goals and was sold back to City in 2008 for 1/3rd of the price that they had paid for him.

3. Steve Sidwell (Chelsea)

Steve Sidwell moved to Chelsea on a free transfer in 2007 and while he insisted that he was not there just to make up the numbers, he struggled for gametime under Mourinho - managing to make just 25 appearances in the season.

The midfielder scored a solitary goal during his time at Stamford Bridge, with the Blues selling him after just one season to Aston Villa.

4. Michael Hector (Chelsea)

Michael Hector was Mourinho's only English signing during his second spell as Chelsea manager and was loaned straight back to Reading for the remainder of the campaign.

The defender spent the next three seasons on loan at various clubs, before eventually joining Fulham permanently in 2019. He left the Blues without playing a single game for them.

5. Lee Grant (Manchester United)

Lee Grant joined Manchester United from Stoke City in 2018, with Mourinho signing him as a third-choice goalkeeper for the club. The 38-year-old continues to ply his trade at Old Trafford, but has just made two appearances for the Red Devils so far.

6. Joe Hart (Tottenham Hotspur)

Jose Mourinho's only English signing while at Tottenham Hotspur was Joe Hart, with the goalkeeper not even playing a single minute in the 2020/21 Premier League season.

The 34-year-old in total made just 10 appearances for the club and moved to Celtic for the 2021/22 campaign.
