Tottenham have reportedly opened talks with Gennaro Gattuso after a move to appoint Paulo Fonseca as the club's next manager broke down.

Spurs are still looking to replace Jose Mourinho, who was sacked back in April and is heading to Roma next season. Former boss Mauricio Pochettino, who is currently at Paris Saint-Germain, and former Inter boss, Antonio Conte, were linked to the hot seat at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but moves failed to materialize for either of them.

Former Roma boss, Fonseca, had reportedly agreed to join the north London side and had begun discussions with recently-appointed director of football Fabio Paritici. But according to a report in The Guardian, those negotiations have broken down, and Tottenham have turned their focus to Gattuso, hours after his departure from Fiorentina was announced.

The former Milan boss is available to hire after surprisingly quitting Fiorentina after just 23 days in charge. According to reports, Gattuso and Fiorentina had disagreements over the club’s summer transfer strategies. The 43-year-old led Napoli to fifth place in Serie A last season before departing to take the Fiorentina job.

However, a recent report from The Athletic claims that talks between Tottenham and Gattuso have "broken down", after fans took to social media to protest against the hiring of the Italian. Spurs fans got #NoToGattuso trending on Twitter as they attempted to send a message to club chairman Daniel Levy that Gattuso was "not welcome" at the club.

Spurs, who have now been linked to Pochettino, Erik ten Hag, Brendan Rodgers, Julian Nagelsmann, Fonseca, and now Gattuso, continue to look for a new manager ahead of the 2021-22 Premier League season.
