Indian football legend Sunil Chhetri equaled one of the greatest footballers in history, Pele's international goalscoring record after he scored in the Blue Tigers' 1-0 win over Nepal in the SAFF Championship.
With his goal against Nepal, Chhetri is now just behind Lionel Messi (79) and Cristiano Ronaldo (111) in the list of highest active international goalscorers.
The win against Nepal was India's first of the tournament and it kept them alive in the SAFF Championship.
India dominated the whole game but did not make use of any of the opportunities they created with over 75% of ball possession. They also had 20 attempts on goal.
However, the winning goal came in the 82nd minute courtesy of Chhetri, who ended up equaling Pele's international goals tally.
With this win, India ensured they won five points from their first three games, placing them third in the standings of the SAFF Championship.
The Blue Tigers will now face Maldives in their final round-robin fixtures. Maldives are currently top of the table, ahead of India on goal difference.
This means that India have to ensure they beat Maldives on October 11 in order to make it to the finals for the eighth time in their history.
