Sensational and pretty far-fetched reports emerging from Spain claim Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is prepared to make a move for FC Barcelona star Lionel Messi, amid rumours the Argentine is considering leaving the Catalan outfit in the summer.
According to Spanish outlet, El Chiringuito's Josep Pedrerol [via Tribal Football], Real Madrid and Florentino Perez are monitoring Messi's situation at Barcelona. The report further adds that Perez will try his luck by making a move for the six-time Ballon d'Or winner should he be granted a free exit by the Blaugrana.
Rumours that Messi could leave Barcelona intensified after Bayern Munich humiliated them in the Champions League quarter final. The Bundesliga champions thrashed the Spanish behemoths 8-2 on the night which brought to an end to what was an underwhelming campaign for Barca.
In the aftermath, Quique Setien faced the axe, and Ronald Koeman has replaced him. While Koeman has made it clear his keenness to work with Messi, the Argentine international has reportedly told the newly-appointed coach he is more 'out at Barca than in'.
It will be interesting to see how this saga ends. Will Messi finally leave Barcelona this summer or decide to see out his contract and then leave? However, a move to Barcelona's bitter rivals Real Madrid appears pretty unlikely.
