Indian national team defender, Sandesh Jhingan's stint with Croatian top-tier side, HNK Sibenik has started on the worst possible note as the centre-back picked up an injury while training with the club.
Jhingan who recently signed for HNK Sibenik, became the first Indian international footballer to play in the Croatian top-tier league Prva HNL - though the club's head coach, Mario Rosas revealed that he was injured just 30 hours prior to the start of the game.
In a press conference, Rosas confirmed that the Indian defender and Haitian Christopher Attys, who is on loan from Inter Milan, are both out of contention and are not ready to take the pitch yet.
"Sandesh did an MRI, the doctors' opinions are different. According to some, he might be able to continue training next week, but we'll see, hopefully it's nothing serious."
This news comes just three days after the 28-year-old joined the Croatian club, while it is also being reported that the defender along with Attys are yet to be registered by the club so far. If all goes well with Jhingan's progress, then it is expected that he will make his debut for the club against the star-studded Dinamo Zagreb on September 11.
Jhingan is widely considered to be the best defender in the country, going from strength-to-strength ever since he was named as the Emerging Player of the Year in 2014.
