Indian national team and ATK Mohun Bagan's star defender, Sandesh Jhingan has reportedly agreed terms over a move to Croatia's top division club, HNK Sibenik - with the star set to move to abroad as soon as possible.

Jhingan who is the reigning All India Football Federation (AIFF) Player of the Year was understood to be keen to play in Europe from the past two years, but he had to keep his dream on hold due to injury and the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic.

It was reported that there was interest in the 28-year-old from clubs in Croatia, Austria and Greece, with the defender eventually opting to join HNK Sibenik.

"We have an agreement with HNK Sibenik. All efforts are now on to get him to Croatia as soon as possible. There were several offers for Sandesh last year but with COVID-19 restrictions it became very difficult," Sandesh's representative, Anuj Kichlu told Times of India.

"This year, there were four different clubs who reached out to us. After considering the different types of leagues and offers, HNK Sibenik looked like the best fit for Sandesh. Croatia, after all, are World Cup finalists and the league has grown a lot in the last few years."

Despite signing a five-year contract with ATK Mohun Bagan only last year, the move will not run into problems considering that his deal has clauses which allows him to move to Europe, if a club is interesting in signing him.

Jhingan for his part is considered to be the best defender in the country, going from strength-to-strength ever since he was named as the Emerging Player of the Year in 2014. The move to Europe will definitely make him a better player and it will be news welcomed by India's head coach, Igor Stimac - who is a big fan of the defender.
