Liverpool attacker Sadio Mane has admitted the 2020-21 campaign has been the 'worst season' of his career, but does not know what has gone wrong for him.

Mane has struggled for form this season at Liverpool, who have also been far from their best in the ongoing campaign.

With the Premier League season nearing its end, Liverpool - the defending champions - sit sixth in the table and they risk missing out on Champions League qualification for next season.

The dip in form of several key players, including Mane, has not helped Liverpool, who have also been plagued by injuries this season.

Mane admits he has no explanation for why he is enduring the worst season of his career and revealed he even underwent a medical test to check if there is anything wrong with his body.

"This is the worst season of my career. I have to admit it," Mane told Canal Plus [via Goal] before adding, "If you ask me what is wrong I will struggle to give you an answer. Personally I don't know. I have always tried to be positive, whether things are going well or badly. I question myself all the time."

He concluded, "I even underwent a test to take a look at my body. Am I eating the right foods, or has everything changed? But they checked the test results, and everything is fine. I need to understand that in life there are ups and downs. I will keep on working hard - and perhaps in time this situation will pass."

Meanwhile, Mane was on the scoresheet when Liverpool beat Southampton 2-0 in their previous match and boosted their hopes of Champions League qualification. The Merseyside-outfit face Manchester United in their next match, and will be aiming for nothing less than a victory.
