Former Manchester City centre-back Richard Dunne has said Ruben Dias could be a candidate for the club's captaincy in the future.
Dias, who arrived from Benfica last summer, transformed Man City's defence in an impressive debut campaign, and helped them win the Premier League and Carabao Cup titles.
Dunne says it's very important for Dias to start the 2021/22 season well, and believes the Portuguese international could be a captaincy candidate in the 'next few years'.
"He’ll be looking to start the season well, continue to progress because as a centre back there was nobody near him last season," Dunne, who spent 9 years at Man City between 2000 and 2009, told club's official media channel.
"You’d imagine he’s settled in and feels more comfortable, so he can improve again.
"It’s very important he starts well and continues the form from last season.
"The other players will know him and understand what he’s good and what to expect, so let’s hope that continues.
"And though he’s still very young, he’s got that stature and aura about him.
“Looking ahead, I think he could be a real captaincy candidate going forward in the next few years."
Meanwhile, Dias was part of Man City's wins over Preston and Barnsley in the pre-season and will be hoping to kick-start the new season on a strong note.
