Real Madrid want to wait until 2023 to sign Erling Haaland

Real Madrid have tabled an offer to sign Erling Haaland - but not until the summer of 2023, according to reports in Germany.

Haaland has been widely expected to depart Borussia Dortmund this summer, with almost every top club in Europe chasing him. Most recently he has been strongly linked with Barcelona, but according to Dortmund-based outlet Ruhr Nachrichten, the Blaugrana's fierce rivals have pulled the trigger first.

The local outlet report that Real have an offer on the table for Haaland, but in a surprise twist Los Blancos have requested that the striker remain at BVB for one more season before making the move to the Santiago Bernabeu.

The reasons for this are not stated, but it is likely to be down to finances. Real are desperate to secure Kylian Mbappe's signature at the end of the season after missing out on him last summer, and although he will be available on a free transfer, the Frenchman will command significant wages and a big signing-on fee.

Due to this, Real may struggle to finance his and Haaland's arrival in the same window, even if they are set to shed Gareth Bale's hefty salary at the end of the current campaign.

As90min reported in January, Haaland's £64m release clause needs to be paid in full to be triggered, so Dortmund are open to buying clubs paying off a larger fee in instalments. Whether Real's proposed deal is structured in this way remains to be seen.
