La Liga side Real Madrid are reported to be considering revisiting their earlier interest in signing Villarreal defender Pau Torres ahead of the 2021-22 season.

Los Blancos have been linked with a move for the Spaniard all summer and it is being said that with the departures of Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane in the same window, the club have become more alert in their intentions to sign Torres.

Despite initial rumours of Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti being reportedly happy with his centre back options for the 2021-22 season, Mundo Deportivo claim that Madrid could now make a concrete move for Torres.

Villarreal coach Unai Emery is reported to be already aware of Ancelotti's side's interest in his star defender and has informed the club to set a €65m asking price on the player with Los Blancos unwilling to spend over €50m.

Multiple reports from England had linked Torres to Manchester United in this transfer window too but all of those reports have been brought to a conclusion the moment they signed Varane.

Considering Madrid are aiming to bring in some attacking reinforcements, it would be a mistake on Florentino Perez's side to overlook the urgent need of a centre-back considering their prime defensive pair have both left the club in the same transfer window.

The report from Mundo Deportivo also suggests that if Madrid are not able to sign Mbappe in the final weeks of the summer transfer window, they will move to instead reinforce their defence by making another attempt for Torres hoping that Villarreal will accept a cut price in the final days of the window.

Torres has risen in stature over the last season. The 24-year-old defender established himself as the best defender in La Liga and also impressed in his performances with Spain at the Euro 2020 alongside Aymeric Laporte.
