Real Madrid are reportedly eyeing a move for Manchester City winger Raheem Sterling ahead of the summer transfer window.

The England international has found himself benched in recent games, after scoring just once in his last 12 games, with Pep Guardiola choosing Phil Foden over him in his starting XI.

According to the Daily Star, Zinedine Zidane's side are interested in making a move for Sterling when the transfer window opens. Los Blancos previously tried to sign the 26-year-old before he signed for City, and was still a Liverpool player.

The LaLiga giants have been long-term admirers of Sterling, who scored 20 goals last season, but has managed just 13 this campaign, so far.

The report adds that Madrid believe they have a chance to sign Sterling after it was revealed that his contract talks with City have been put on hold until the summer. It is also claimed that he is happy at the Etihad and is hoping to extend his deal once Euro 2020 is over.

Sterling has admitted that it has been a "weird season" for him, and he has been left frustrated after being sidelined by Guardiola. "Don't get me wrong, this season for me personally has been a very weird one," he told Rio Ferdinand for BT Sport.

"But nevertheless I'm still enjoying my football and giving my all to the team. Yeah don't get me wrong, if I don't score or do something to help the team I'm not happy coming off the field.

"Of course I am happy we've won but at the same time I think that's what helps me to get these goals is to be that driven and it's the perfect time in the season now."
