New Manchester United boss, Ralf Rangnick has hailed the defensive work of footballing superstar, Cristiano Ronaldo as his reign as new coach got off the best possible start as his side beat Crystal Palace 1-0 in the Premier League on Sunday.

The Red Devils had Fred to thank for the win as his late second half goal gave United all three points on the night and Rangnick was happy that the club registered their first clean sheet since April, while singling out Ronaldo for his defensive work on the field.

"The way we defended, we had control of the whole game -- the clean sheet was the most important part. By the way, Cristiano Ronaldo's work off the ball, chapeau," he said post the game.

"I am very happy with the way the team performed, especially the first half hour, with the pressing, it was exceptional. The only thing missing was the 1-0 or 2-0. These are the things we must improve. We need to keep clean sheets. With just the one training session, I was really impressed. We did much better than expected."

It was an important win for United as the result on the night meant that they jumped to sixth place in the league table with 24 points from 15 games, 11 behind table toppers, Chelsea.
