The footballing world reacted with shock and disbelief following the news emerging that Argentina icon, Lionel Messi will leave Barcelona after spending his entire professional career with the Catalan giants.

Despite Messi agreeing to a new five-year deal with the Catalan giants and agreeing to a 50 percent pay cut, the club president, Joan Laporta confirmed that they would unable to give him a new contract as they are not able to register the player due to the La Liga salary cap rules.

As per transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano - Paris Saint-Germain have wasted no time following the Messi-Barcelona transfer situation, and have already initiated contact with the Argentinian and his representatives.

PSG were heavily linked with Messi in the past, with the likes of Neymar and Angel Di Maria revealing their desire to play with the record six-time Ballon d'Or award winner at the French capital.

The loss of Messi comes as a major blow to Barcelona, considering that he is their greatest ever player and was key to all of their success since he made his senior debut for them. This situation will also hurt them off the field as they will lose one of the most marketable athletes in the world, which is a big loss especially in the financial crunch they find themselves in currently.
