Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has reportedly made a personal call to Antoine Griezmann over a potential move this summer.
City are looking to bring in a new striker to replace Sergio Aguero, who joined Barcelona on a free last month, and have been linked to Erling Haaland in the past. However, according to recent reports, Chelsea seem to be inching closer to a deal for the Borussia Dortmund man.
According to Foot Mercato, Guardiola has turned his attention to Griezmann. Barca are in desperate need of funds to balance their wage books and need to offload several players in order to make an offer to Lionel Messi, who is currently a free agent after his contract with the club expired last month.
The report claims that City and Griezmann's representatives were in touch last summer, but the Premier League champion's finances, impacted by the coronavirus pandemic, prevented a deal from going through. However, Barca's financial issues might compel them to accept a lower price for the Frenchman, who has been rumoured to leave the club in the past as well.
City are also interested in wantaway Tottenham striker Harry Kane, however, their interest in the England international seems to have "cooled" due to the huge transfer fee needed to prise the striker away from north London, and Griezmann could be the perfect solution.
