Arsenal legend Paul Merson has urged Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel to drop Timo Werner from the starting XI for the Champions League final against Manchester City.

Chelsea beat Real Madrid 3-1 on aggregate to book their place in the Champions League final, and it was Werner who scored the opening goal for the Blues when they inflicted a 2-0 defeat on the Spanish giants at Stamford Bridge in the second-leg.

But, Werner, who joined Chelsea in the summer, has not been quite prolific in front of goal this season, and Merson believes the German should be dropped for the Champions League final and Christian Pulisic, who he says is a better finisher, should start against Man City.

"Timo Werner scored a big goal for Chelsea against Real Madrid. But he shouldn’t play in the Champions League final," Merson told Daily Star. "Christian Pulisic should start against Manchester City - because he is a better finisher.

"I'd be shocked if Pulisic doesn’t play. He can beat two or three players and he’s better in front of goal than Werner.

"When I played for Arsenal and we were defending corners, we could clear it and Ian Wright would beat two men on the halfway line and score. Pulisic does that.

"I would play him against City this weekend and see how it goes. You won’t get 10 shots a game against City, so you have to play your best finishers."

Meanwhile, Chelsea face Man City in the Premier League in their next game, and it will be interesting to see who Tuchel starts in attack against the league leaders.
