Manchester United legend Patrice Evra has showered praise on the club's new signing Raphael Varane as he said the French centre-back reminds him of Rio Ferdinand.
Varane is set to become the latest addition to Man Utd's squad after the club announced on Tuesday they have reached an agreement in principle with Real Madrid over the transfer of the defender.
Varane, who is regarded as one of the best defenders in the world, is expected to strengthen Utd's defence and partner Harry Maguire, and Evra says the 28-year-old is a top signing for the Red Devils.
"Varane reminds me of Rio Ferdinand. Great with the ball, great in the air," Evra told The Athletic.
"He’s the complete centre-back. I remember my first game with the French national team and I was so impressed.
"He was so young yet so good with the ball, so fast and his anticipation was perfect.
"He’s calm with the ball and he can score too. It’s a top, top signing for Manchester United."
Meanwhile, Varane will become Man Utd's third signing of this summer once the transfer is completed. The Old Trafford outfit have already landed goalkeeper Tom Heaton on a free transfer and Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund.
