Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is reportedly set to be handed a new £9m-a-year deal which is set to keep him at Old Trafford for the next few years.

Solskjaer replaced Mourinho in December 2018, and is set to enter the final 12 months of his three-year contract. And according to the Daily Mirror, the 48-year-old will be awarded an extension and a pay rise to his current £7m-per-year salary.

United currently sit second on the Premier League table with 54 points from their opening 28 games, and looked like they would challenge Manchester City for the title this season. They also still retain hopes of lifting silverware this season, as they are still a part of the Europa League and the FA Cup.

Ed Woodward hinted earlier this month that an extension was on the cards for Solskjaer. “The progress made by Ole and the players this season is clear and is adding to the optimism we feel about the future on and off the pitch," he said. "Of course, we recognise there's more hard work ahead to achieve the consistency needed to win trophies.

“But we see positive signs on the pitch and the training ground that reinforce our belief in the progress being made by Ole, his coaching team and the players. We will continue to support Ole with a planned, long-term approach to recruitment, focused on the summer windows."
