Stade de Reims manager Oscar Garcia has heaped praise on Lionel Messi, who is expected to play for Paris Saint-Germain against them in what would be his debut for the French side.

Messi, who joined PSG on a two-year contract with option for another year earlier this summer, is yet to feature for the Ligue 1 outfit. The Argentine could, however, make his debut for PSG when they visit Stade Auguste-Delaune to face Reims in their next league match.

Garcia, who is also a former Barcelona player, is full of praise for Messi, and claimed the six-time Ballon d'Or winner's arrival is a positive sign for Ligue 1.

"Nobody has found the formula or the way to stop him as an individual," Garcia said in an interview with EFE [via Marca].

He added: "I would have preferred not to face him, because it would mean that he is still at Barcelona.

"But for the French league it's a very positive sign that the best players in the world, or the best in the world in this case, can come to this league."

As a coach, Garcia has faced Messi before, and the Catalan manager recalled how the now 34-year-old decided the game as Barcelona beat Celta de Vigo 4-1 in November 2019. He said: "It's what happens a lot of the time with Messi. I think we played a good game tactically speaking, Barcelona had almost no chances."

"But he scored two free kicks and a penalty; he changed the game in those moments."
