Newcastle United are reported to have joined the race to sign Paris Saint-Germain striker Mauro Icardi in the upcoming transfer window.

The Geordies are ready to flex financially after the club was bought out by the Saudi consortium headed by Mohammed Bin Salman.

It was reported that Newcastle will have the permission under financial fair play rules to spend more than £200m in order to replenish their squad.

Italian publication CalcioMercato go on to reveal that Newcastle's first target is PSG forward Icardi.

The report further states that they will face competition from Tottenham Hotspur and Juventus to sign the Argentine.

Icardi, who joined PSG from Inter Milan, has faced incredible competition for his place in the squad and it is obvious why he couldn't get much game time.

Despite his limited appearances, Icardi managed to score 36 goals in 72 appearances for the Parisians.

With Newcastle, Tottenham too are said to be aiming to land Icardi as they expect their talisman Harry Kane to leave the club in next summer's transfer window.

Juventus, meanwhile, lost their star man Cristiano Ronaldo in the summer and even with Moise Kean, they do intend to sign a target man and Icardi fits the bill.
