Paris Saint-Germain and Spain centre-back Sergio Ramos has showered praise on Lionel Messi, insisting the Argentine 'will always have a role in my team'.

Ramos has come up against Messi on the pitch several times in the past, and the two players have been part of some great duels. And, Ramos, widely regarded as one of the best centre-backs in the world, considers Messi as one of the best players in the world.

"I like to play with the best players and Messi has been one of the best in the world," Ramos told TNT Sports [via Goal].

"I have always said that Messi will always have a role in my team."

Meanwhile, Messi is currently a free agent after his contract with Barcelona expired at the end of June, and the six-time Ballon d'Or winner was linked with a move to PSG.

However, a transfer to the Ligue One outfit appears unlikely at the moment, with the 34-year-old widely expected to sign new contract at Barcelona.

Multiple reports have claimed Messi has agreed a five-year contract with the Catalan outfit, but he is yet to put pen to paper on the new deal.

Barcelona's crippling financial situation is said to be the reason why they have not yet been able to announce Messi's contract extension, with the club in desperate need to cut costs and balance the books before they can register new players, including the Argentine star.
