Paris Saint-Germain manager, Mauricio Pochettino has reiterated that he never doubted Argentina icon, Lionel Messi at the club, insisting that the striker remains the "best player in the world" following his performance in their win over Lille in the Ligue 1over the weekend.

Messi had not had the best of starts to life in France especially in the league, but he showed glimpses that he was back to his best by scoring a goal and registering an assist during PSG's 5-1 win over Lille.

Pochettino for his part believes it is only a matter of time before the 34-year-old gets back to his best on the pitch.

"I had no doubts, Leo is the best player in the world. Like anyone, he needs time to adapt. He needed time to recover his best physical shape, after a month without playing because of the Covid," he said post the game.

"It's important that Leo shows such participation and commitment."

The record seven-time Ballon d'Or award winner has taken his goal tally to seven in all competitions for the club so far this season and PSG for their part are in pole position to win yet another league title as they are seven points clear of second placed, Marseille at the top of the table.
