Argentina icon, Lionel Messi has reportedly fallen ill and is understood to be a doubt for Paris Saint-Germain's clash against Nice on Wednesday after returning back to the French capital with a bout of gastroenteritis.

Messi caught gastroenteritis on the night where he won his seventh Ballon d'Or award with the striker understood to not be well on returning back to Paris, which has put him in doubt for PSG's upcoming game.

While it is yet to be confirmed that the 34-year-old will miss PSG's game against Nice, Monday night was a good one for the Argentina icon as he secured another honour to beat out competition from the likes of Bayern Munich hitman, Robert Lewandowski and Chelsea midfielder, Jorginho.

The striker who moved to PSG from Barcelona earlier in the summer is yet to recapture the form that has made him so deadly, though he did show glimpses of his talent as he registered a hat-trick of assists in their last league game.

PSG for their part will not look to rush him from his recent bout of illness as they are currently cruising in Ligue 1 with 40 points from 15 games, 12 points ahead of second placed, Rennes.
