Memphis Depay has revealed his joy at joining "dream club" Barcelona and admitted he cannot wait to play alongside Lionel Messi.

The 27-year-old was officially unveiled as a Barcelona player earlier this week after being linked to Ronald Koeman's side for over two seasons. The Dutchman played under the Barca boss while he was in charge of the Holland national team, and the duo were keen to link up again.

Depay signed from Lyon on a free transfer, with the striker revealing that he is living a dream by moving to the LaLiga giants.

The forward tweeted on Thursday night: "I want to thank the president, the whole board of Barcelona, the coach and my own team for making my dream reality. I want to thank God more than anything else for guiding me through out my life! I have no words to describe how I feel right now but I’m so grateful."

Depay also admitted he is very much looking forward to linking up with Messi, who will once again be a Barcelona player in the coming weeks after agreeing to a new deal. He added: "He's a legend, best player in the world, you saw what he did in the Copa America. I'm very much looking forward to playing with him, his quality is undoubted. I have to just make my runs and I know the ball will come.

"Because he has too much quality, he can do everything with the ball. I think everybody in the world would like to play with someone like that. Yesterday I had a tour of the museum and saw all of the Ballon d'Or awards, he probably has another one coming too. It's going to be a dream for me."

Depay also gave his thoughts on linking up with Koeman once again, and said: "[Koeman] had a big impact. I know him from the national team - he put me in the centre-forward position and it did a lot. In the games that I played under the coach I did a lot of things that created chances and goals.

"I think he made me feel confident to play in a different role, he tried my through the middle and it worked. Obviously he made the step to Barcelona and from then we stayed in contact. He tried to convince me to come last season already. I think now was the right moment so obviously it was the influence of the coach but you cannot say no to Barcelona so I would have came anyway."
