Paris Saint-Germain superstar, Kylian Mbappe played his 50th Champions League during their 2-1 loss to Manchester City on Wednesday and as usual he marked the appearance with a goal - though it wasn't enough for his side to come out victors on the night.

The Frenchman has scored a staggering 29 goals and registered 22 assists in his 50 appearances so far, though he has yet to taste success in the competition. Mbappe is only 22-years-old and will no doubt go on to become an all-time great in the world, but how does he compare to the likes of Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Robert Lewandowski at the same stage of their careers?

Let's take a look.

1. Lionel Messi - 31 goals, 11 assists in first 50 UCL games

Lionel Messi started out as a winger, but Pep Guardiola's arrival at Barcelona saw the Argentinian move into a false 9 role and it was there that he started to put on amazing numbers in front of goal.

The record six-time Ballon d'Or award winner played his 50th Champions League in December 2010, netting 31 goals and 11 assists at the time with the striker already winning the competition twice by the time.

2. Cristiano Ronaldo - 13 goals, 11 assists in first 50 UCL games

Another footballing great who started out as a winger before moving to the main striker role was Cristiano Ronaldo, who to be fair did not have the best numbers in his first 50 games - netting 13 goals and registering 11 assists.

The Portugal icon reached the mark in February 2009 and had already led Manchester United to the title in 2008.

3. Robert Lewandowski - 31 goals, 13 assists in first 50 UCL games

Robert Lewandowski has established himself as the best striker in the world over the past three years and he has been his usual brilliant self in the Champions League as seen by the 31 goals and 13 assists he registered in his first 50 games.

Like Mbappe though he failed to win the trophy by the time, though he did lead Bayern Munich to the trophy in the 2019/20 season.
