Maurizio Sarri Leaves Ronaldo Out of Juventus Squad Confirming Immobile as Serie A Golden Boot Winner

Cristiano Ronaldo has been left out of Juventus’ squad for their final Serie A game of the season against Roma and while this rest was need for him to be ready for the Champions League, it means that Ciro Immobile has been confirmed as the winner of the Golden Boot this season in Italian football.

Immobile finishes as Europe’s top league scorer with 35 goals, ahead of Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski on 34.

In the process, he becomes the first Italian to take this title since Francesco Totti for Roma in 2006-07 on 26 goals, with Luca Toni crowned the year before for Fiorentina on 31 goals.

FC Barcelona legend Lionel Messi had won the Golden Shoe for three years running, with Barcelona teammate Luis Suarez taking it in 2015-16. Immobile could also set a new all-time Serie A record toda evening for goals scored in a single season, as he is one away from 36 goals, a record set by Gonzalo Higuain for Napoli in 2016.

Wales international midfielder Ramsey is included in the Juve squad to face Roma, but Argentine forward Dybala remains on the sidelines with a thigh complaint.

Meanwhile, both Dybala and Ronaldo are expected to make a comeback for the Champions League games.
