Marseille defender, Duje Caleta-Car has confirmed that he was a subject of interest regarding a transfer from Liverpool in January, but turned a move to Anfield after deciding to remain in France as he looks to "improve".
Liverpool were in the market for a centre-back in the January transfer window was they were desperate to bolster their options at the back after losing Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip to long-term injuries.
The Reds eventually ended up signing Preston North End defender Ben Davies and Schalke's Ozan Kabak instead, with Davies signing a permanent deal and Kabak joining on loan with an option to buy.
"I received an offer from Liverpool. It was an honour for me to know that such a club wanted me. We decided with the club that I was going to stay. Marseille is also a great club and I still have a lot of improving to do here," Caleta-Car said as quoted by Daily Star.
The 24-year-old who is considered as one of the brightest young defenders in the world, has been at Marseille since 2018, making 78 appearances for them while also representing national country, Croatia 10 times so far.
