Real Madrid left-back Marcelo is 'certain' they will win a trophy in the 2021/22 season.

The Los Blancos endured an underwhelming campaign last season, losing the La Liga title to Atletico Madrid, bowing out of the Champions League in the semi-finals, and suffering a shock exit at the hands of Alcoyano in the Copa del Rey Round of 32.

With Sergio Ramos having left Real Madrid at the end of his contract, Marcelo will be the first team's captain next season, and the Brazilian is confident they will win 'something' in the upcoming campaign.

"We know that it is very difficult going a full season without winning a trophy, but we fought [our best] until the end of last season," Marcelo said, as quoted by Marca.

"I am certain that we will win something. We are very happy, [the] players who are with their national teams and on holiday are still to come back, but we are very motivated for the season to start."

Marcelo also said it's a honour and that he feels fortunate to be the captain of Real Madrid, 'the best club in the world'.

"It is an honour and a very big responsibility to be the captain of the best club in the world," Marcelo said.

"I feel fortunate. Just knowing that I play for Real Madrid makes me wake up extremely motivated every day.

"I am more excited with every season. I have been here for a long time, but my excitement has never changed; it is always increased.

"I am really looking forward to starting the season already."
