Real Madrid and Bayern Munich legend, Xabi Alonso has opened up on the best player he has played alongside in his illustrious career, making a surprising choice by picking German goalkeeper, Manuel Neuer.
The Spaniard who has played alongside a number of legends during his career, including Cristiano Ronaldo, Xavi Hernandez and Andres Iniesta has no doubt as to who comes number one in his list of best players in the world.
"Manuel Neuer. For me, he's the best I've ever seen, and the best I've ever played with," he told Jamie Carragher in his Greatest Game podcast.
Neuer is widely recognised by many as the greatest goalkeeper in the history of the sport, with the German reinventing the way a shotstopper plays the game in recent times and has been a key figure in the success of both Bayern and Germany.
Alonso for his part has always maintained that the 35-year-old remains one of the best in the business as seen by his comments on his former team-mate in the past.
Manu's not only the world's best keeper by a distance, he's also a sensational outfield player. He's never stopped being big Manu, even when he had his injuries," he told SportBild in the past.
Neuer has been at Bayern since 2011, making 432 appearances for them and helping the club win eight successive Bundesliga titles and two Champions League honours.
