Manchester United are reportedly close to finalising the deals on signing Raphael Varane and Kieran Trippier from Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid, respectively in a sensational double swoop this summer.

United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to reinforce his back-line in the summer and has identified Varane and Trippier as the two players who could make a difference for them as they look to challenge for the Premier League title in the upcoming season.

Varane who is widely considered as one of the best central defenders in the world is entering the final year of his contract with Madrid and could cost the Red Devils around £50million as the Los Blancos are not very keen on selling him for free next summer.

As per the Express, United have already agreed personal terms with the Frenchman and that they are hopeful of completing the deal by the end of next week. Trippier meanwhile is also understood to be very keen on moving to Old Trafford after spending two successful seasons with Atletico, with his arrival understood to give Solskjaer more options due to his versatility.

Should both the moves go through, it will take United's total expenditure to well over £140m after £73m of that was spent to sign Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund earlier in the summer.
