Romelu Lukaku matched Ronaldo Nazario's debut-season tally of 34 goals for Inter in their 3-2 Europa League final defeat against Sevilla.

The Belgian fired Inter ahead from the penalty spot, successfully matching Ronaldo’s debut-season tally of 34 strikes in all competitions for Inter in the 1997/98 campaign.

Lukaku was deemed surplus by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and was offloaded to the Serie A giants for £74m, but he’s been setting the record straight about how good he can really be.

His partnership with Lautaro Martinez has dovetailed nicely, with the Argentine getting 14 league goals for himself and earning links to Barcelona.

And the Belgian, thanks to 23 Serie A goals – more than Mauro Icardi, the man he replaced ever got in a season – has already achieved headline-making statistics.

Lukaku scored 23 times in Serie A, seven in the Europa League, and two in the Champions League as well as Coppa Italia, equalling the overall tally of Ronaldo's 34 strikes from his debut season in 1997/98.

However, Manchester United supporters still believe selling Lukaku was the best move for both parties last summer, taking to Twitter to defend their club’s decision.

It is definitely a tough one to call but to think that without Lukaku leaving, United fans wouldn't have got to see Greenwood's rise, is something that will surely prove why it was the right decision to let the Belgian leave.
