Former Argentina and Manchester City star, Pablo Zabaleta believes that his countryman, Lionel Messi should join the Premier League outfit in the summer as the club would "offer the perfect conditions" for the record six-time Ballon d'Or award winner to thrive.

Zabaleta who spent nine years at the Etihad, making over 300 appearances believes that Messi's familarity with manager, Pep Guardiola, sporting director Txiki Begiristain and chief executive Ferran Soriano would ensure that there would be people who would help him settle to life in England.

“Leo has been in La Liga for so many years and I think it would be a huge attraction for him to experience English football. And Manchester City offer the perfect conditions. He knows Pep very well, he knows [sporting director] Txiki Begiristain and [chief executive] Ferran Soriano and also [Sergio] Aguero. It would be a big decision if Leo leaves Barcelona. But if that’s what he wants then it would be a good thing for him to go to a club that has people already there who can help him to settle," he told the Mirror.

“When you have been at one club for so long, moving somewhere new can be very strange. I am sure clubs like Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus would also be interested in signing him, but it is my opinion that City would be the best place to go after Barcelona.”

Messi's future at Barcelona has been a source of speculation throughout the season after it emerged that he had handed in a transfer request and is at the end of his current contract in the summer.

That the 33-year-old is available for free in the summer has added extra incentive for the likes of City and Paris Saint-Germain to express an interest and it will be interesting to see what the player decides to do at the end of the season.
