Messi put in a request to leave Barca last season, but decided to stick back until the end of the his contract. Clubs outside of Spain have been able to speak with the Argentine since January over a potential summer move, but Messi has insisted that he will only think about his future once the seasone ends.
According to Marca, Pep Guardiola's side are waiting to hear Messi's decision and will not step forward as a potential suitor until he decides he wants to leave Barcelona. The City boss is keen on reuniting with his former player, who could be the perfect replacement for Sergio Aguero, who is set to leave the Etihad once the ongoing campaign ends.
Meanwhile, Mundo Deportivo claim Messi is waiting to have a sit down with new Barcelona president Joan Laporta over a new deal, and could be willing to take a paycut to continue his stay at Camp Nou.
However, the report goes on to state that the 33-year-old is concerned about the squad and believes they lack the tools to win the Champions League. Barcelona last won the coveted trophy in 2015, back when Luis Enrique was manager.
