Ronaldo was reportedly offered to City by his agent, Jorge Mendes, after the Portuguese star told Juventus he wanted to leave. But in a strange turn of events, City pulled out of the deal for Ronaldo allowing Manchester United to swoop in for their former player.
But according to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Pep Guardiola's side contacted Mendes over a potential deal for Ansu Fati, and were hoping to lure the youngster to the Etihad.
But with the Catalan club having just lost Lionel Messi to Paris Saint-Germain, the prospect was barely entertained by Ronald Koeman's side. The report also states that both Fati and Mendes were in agreement that staying at Camp Nou was in the player's best interest.
Fati was handed Messi's iconic No 10 shirt following the Argentine's departure and has been viewed by many in the Barcelona hierarchy as the club's next superstar.
