Manchester United are reported to have been looking at options that will replace Paul Pogba if and when the Frenchman eventually leaves the club and among a host of other options, they have added Nicolo Barella to their list.
The Red Devils have landed Tom Heaton, Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane this summer and any further signings will depend on sales.
One such player tipped to leave in order for more signings to come in is Paul Pogba, with heavy interest from Paris Saint-Germain.
Pogba has just one year remaining on his current deal at Old Trafford and the Frenchman has refused a contract extension.
As a result, United have been in the market for replacements especially in the central midfield department with options ranging from Ruben Neves to Saul Niguez and Declan Rice to Eduardo Camavinga.
Now, Calciomercato have claimed the Red Devils have added a new name in their Pogba replacement list in the form of Barella.
The Italian star played a crucial role for his country over the summer as Italy claimed Euro 2020 glory at Wembley against England in the final.
Barella has been a consistent performer for Inter over the years and being at the age of 24, he perfectly first Manchester United's profile of buying players in the last couple of years.
Other clubs too are reportedly attempting to lure him, which makes it difficult for United to consider making an offer as it depends on Pogba leaving.
