Manchester United are reportedly looking to hijack Lionel Messi's upcoming transfer to Paris Saint-Germain this summer, according to Duncan Castles.

The Argentine maestro is available on a free transfer and while he looks certain to be joining PSG, the move hasn't been made official yet.

Due to this, many reports have linked Messi to a number of European clubs, with Manchester United reported as a possible destination.

Speaking on The Transfer Window Podcast, Castles spoke about the Barcelona legend and said “He’s available and looking for a club. It’s interesting to see what decisions will be taken by clubs.

"It’s interesting Manchester United – who have talked about their coherent strategy and planning that have gone into their transfers and they’ve been quick to do deals for two important players in positions where they needed players in – are saying, ‘Well, can we do something for Messi?’"

He concluded, “I’m not surprised PSG are pushing to do it.”

Meanwhile, Khalid bin Hamad Bin Khalifa Al-Thani, the brother of the Emir who owns Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain shared a post on his Twitter handle.

He confirmed that PSG and Messi have reached an agreement. He added that Messi will sign a 2-year deal until 2023 with an option to extend by an additional year.

No matter what has been reported, linking Messi with a move to Manchester United definitely seems a bit too far-fetched.
