Manchester United board have reportedly given Ole Gunnar Solskjaer a fresh target to ensure safety of his job.

The United hierarchy wants Ole to steer the Red Devils into the UEFA Champions League round-of-16 in order to have the guarantee of his job at the club.

The Norwegian coach has overseen a poor campaign for his side and another defeat at the hands of Watford on Saturday will see him close to being sacked.

Express quote The Independent in stating that the Red Devils are hoping Solskjaer can steer them into the latter stages of the Champions League.

The report further addes that the lack of world-class managers available is what has stopped Ole from being sacked. The Red Devils have been linked with the likes of Mauricio Pochettino, Erik ten Hag and Brendan Rodgers, who are all working at other clubs.

Ralf Rangnick has also been linked with the United job, but no progress has been made on this. Zinedine Zidane was reportedly seen as a target but he rejected the job in hopes of landing the job of the France national football team coach.

No matter how many reports link managers to Manchester United, the bottom line remains that the club's ownership is happy with a top four position and as long as it is possible for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to mathematically achieve that spot, he will be Manchester United's manager.
