Manchester United fans have hit out at Edinson Cavani for wanting more time off after playing for Uruguay in their World Cup qualifying games.

Interim boss Ralf Rangnick confirmed that Cavani had requested for additional time off and would miss United's FA Cup clash with Middlesbrough on Friday.

Cavani played in Uruguay's wins over Paraguay and Venezuela, and will return to Old Trafford later than planned.

"Edi Cavani will only return at the weekend," Rangnick revealed.

"He contacted me to ask if he could have two more days at home. He won't be part of the group."

However, the veteran striker's request did not sit too well with fans, who took to social media to slam Cavani for missing the fourth round clash.

One supporter said: "He's disrespected the club so much... but the fans love him because he does knee slides and shows passion."

Another said: "Edinson taking the mick. Another waste of time player earning a six figure salary. Joke club."

"Cavani always with extended leaves. I am getting sick of it," said a third.

Gary Neville too mocked Cavani on social media, writing: "Sue wanted a day off, Alan took a holiday, John was ill, Barry handed his notice in, Clive said he might be there and Barbara will be on the minutes!”

United will be without Alex Telles, Eric Bailly, Victor Lindelof, and Jesse Lingard for the clash, while Luke Shaw could return to the starting XI after recovering from an injury spell of his own.
