Manchester United are reported to be close to agreeing personal terms with Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane as they continue to try to bring to Frenchman to Old Trafford.

The French centre-back is reported to have set his heart on a move to Manchester United and the rumour of him getting close to a transfer comes at a time when the Red Devils have been linked with multiple other centre-backs along with the Frenchman.

Manchester Evening News reveal that United are 'not far off' from completing the signing of Varane.

The report adds that Varane prefers to head straight to Manchester after his holiday rather having to return to Real Madrid for pre-season. Furthermore, while negotiations with Varane's entourage are slow, United are said to be confident of landing him this summer.

Los Blancos value Varane at £80m but they know they won't be able to sell him at that price which is why the report claims that sources state that United expect Madrid to bring down the player's price. It has already been reported that the Spanish side has not accepted an initial offer worth £50m for the defender.

Varane is currently holidaying with his family after France were knocked out of the Euro 2020 in disastrous fashion by Switzerland in the round of 16.
