Key Summary:

1. Cristiano Ronaldo missed a sitter during Man United's win over Leeds.

2. Ronaldo should have found the back of the net but instead his shot hit keeper Illan Meslier.

3. Fans took to social media to slam the striker for missing an easy goal.

Manchester United fans were appalled at Cristiano Ronaldo's miss during the win over Leeds United on Sunday.

Paul Pogba beat Adam Forshaw and fired a cross into the box, with Ronaldo rushing to meet the ball at the back post.

However, the striker fluffed his effort and hit the ball straight at Leeds keeper Illan Meslier. And fans on social media were shocked at Ronaldo's miss and slammed the 37-year-old for not scoring.

Another United fan wrote: 'Embarrassing miss from Ronaldo, robbing Pogba of another assist.'

Another Twitter user commented: 'Questions have to be asked of Ronaldo there. That was shocking.'

Despite Ronaldo's miss, United went on to beat Leeds 4-2 courtesy of goals from Harry Maguire, Bruno Fernandes, Fred, and Anthony Elanga.

Gary Neville, who was in the studio for the game, defended Ronaldo's miss, and tried to offer an explanation after initially expressing surprise.

Neville said on Sky Sports: "How has he not scored? It was brilliant from Pogba but Ronaldo couldn't quite get enough on it. It was a big chance."

Before adding: "Maybe that's a little behind Cristiano Ronaldo and he's just not able to get the purchase he wants on it."

Speaking after the game, Ralf Rangnick said: "It was perfect in regard to maturity and unity and the best reply they could give to some articles last week that there was disruption in the locker room.

"A game like this one today, you can only win as a team and the mentality of a team. Apart from the three points, this was the most important thing for me."
