Manchester United are reportedly eyeing a move for Sporting Lisbon winger, Pedro Goncalves in the summer with the Telegraph claiming that the Red Devils believe that he would be a cheaper alternative to Borussia Dortmund star, Jadon Sancho.
Goncalves has emerged as a target for United following his brilliant performances for Lisbon this season, as he has netted 15 goals in 21 games in the Primeira Liga so far and with a release clause understood to be £51.7million, he would prove to be half as expensive as Sancho.
It is no secret that United were extremely keen to sign Sancho last summer after baulking at the massive asking price of Dortmund for the winger, with it being expected that they would make another move for the England international this summer.
However, with the COVID-19 pandemic causing a major drop in revenue, the management have realised that signing Sancho would blow a massive hole in their budget. Given that they signed Bruno Fernandes from Sporting, the Red Devils believe that they could land Goncalves and that he will be able to settle in England just like his former team-mate.
The 22-year-old who spent two years at Wolves from 2017 to 2019, is familiar with life in England and if signed would bolster their youth ranks as the club looks to build for the future.
