Liverpool are set to miss out on a £17million payment from Barcelona due to Philippe Coutinho's ongoing knee injury which has ruled him out of the current campaign.

Coutinho moved to Barcelona in 2018 in a deal worth up to £140m, but hasn't featured for Ronald Koeman's side since December 29 after he forced off during a clash with Eibar. The club announced that he had undergone successful surgery on his keen, and has been ruled out for the rest of the season.

As a result, Liverpool are set to miss out on a £17m bonus included in Coutinho's contract - the LaLiga giants were supposed to pay the Reds an additional amount when the Brazilian completed 100 appearances for the club.

Coutinho's last appearance for Barcelona was his 90th, and he is just 10 games away from reaching the milestone. Marca claim Coutinho has since been ruled out of Barcelona's remaining fixtures for the 2020-2021 season.

He has been linked with a return to the Premier League, with Arsenal and Tottenham previously linked to the 28-year-old. According to reports, a return to Liverpool could also be on the cards for the player.
