Lionel Messi is reportedly willing to take a pay cut if it helps Barcelona bring in Erling Haaland in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Reports on Thursday claimed that Messi had agreed to stay on at Camp Nou despite putting in a transfer request last summer, and will extend his deal beyond the current season.

According to Eurosport Spain, the Argentine has informed president Joan Laporta of his decision and is ready to renew his contract at reduced terms, provided those funds are then allocated to bringing in necessary signings in the summer.

Ronald Koeman was keen on bringing in Memphis Depay from Lyon, but the report states that Laporta has assured Messi that the club are set to begin talks with Borussia Dortmund for Haaland. The Norwegian's father, along with his agent Mino Raiola, held a meeting with Barcelona officials last month over a potential transfer.

The LaLiga giants are eager to snap up the prolific 20-year-old, who has previously said to have favoured a move to either Barcelona or Real Madrid. Zinedine Zidane's side are also interested in the striker, but find themselves in a similar boat as their league rivals, and need to offload players before they can consider making a serious offer for Haaland.
