Argentina icon, Lionel Messi's future continues to be a source of speculation and the striker was expected to return to Barcelona's pre-season training camp on Monday, 2 August, though Mundo Deportivo claims that the record six-time Ballon d'Or award winner will not set foot in the Ciutat Esportiva until he signs a new contract with the Nou Camp outfit as technically he is still a "free agent".
Messi is currently on vacation at Ibiza with his family and fellow footballers, Luis Suarez and Cesc Fabregas - with pictures of the Argentinian emerging showing him enjoying the much needed break that he deserves.
The 34-year-old recently won his first major international trophy with Argentina, leading his country to their first Copa America title since 1993 and the skipper led from the front in the tournament. Messi scored four goals and registered five assists to be named the "Player of the Tournament", which has also led many to tip him the favourite to win the Ballon d'Or award this year.
While it was reported that the player had agreed to a new five-year deal with the Catalan giants and was willing to take a 50 percent pay cut - he is still yet to put pen to paper on the deal. Barcelona for their part are yet to register Messi for the upcoming season, as they need to reduce their wage bill by a massive €200million in order to stay within the salary cap set by LaLiga authorities.
