FC Barcelona legend Lionel Messi is reportedly still waiting for a contract renewal offer from the club, according to Mundo Deportivo.

Messi has been courted by current Barcelona president Joan Laporta to sign a new deal, but is yet to receive a feasible proposal. The player too reportedly is interested in seeing what the club offers to him.

Football Espana claim that reports yesterday indicated Laporta is already preparing a proposal for Messi having studied the club’s financial situation with care.

The idea is for them to meet in the next few weeks. What’s clear, however, is that what Messi wants more than anything is a strong sporting project. He turns 34 in June and wants to win another Champions League title before he retires.

Barcelona have shown signs of revival this season despite being knocked out of the UEFA Champions League in agonising fashion by Paris Saint-Germain.

Players like Pedri, Sergino Dest, Frenkie de Jong, Ilaix and Ansu Fati have shown tremendous maturity and growth, something which has also impressed Messi.

The suggestion from Messi's entourage remains that while he understands the financial difficulties that Barcelona are facing, he is impatient to achieve more success, with the team and individually.
