Lionel Messi has been accused by fans of bottling the La Liga title for Barcelona after he missed a huge chance against Granada on Thursday.

Messi opened the scoring in the first half after an incredible assist from Antoine Griezmann. The Frenchman showed tremendous skill to escape his marker before slotting the ball into Messi's path to score the opening goal.

But Barcelona were pulled back as Darwin Machis and Jorge Molina scored to seal an unbelievable 2-1 win for Granada at the Camp Nou.

This defeat has left Barcelona trailing league leaders Atletico Madrid by two points. The Blaugrana, who are third in La Liga are now level on points with rivals Real Madrid with five matches remaining in the league season.

Before Barcelona conceded the equaliser, Messi had a great chance to double his side's lead before half-time.

Messi beat Granada's off-side trap before controlling the ball in brilliant fashion. The Argentine was clear through on goal and only had the goalkeeper to beat. However, his shot clipped Granada's shot-stopper Escandell and the ball went out of play for a corner.

Eventually, this miss proved to be costly at the end of the match and some fans on Twitter started blaming Messi for costing Barcelona the league title. Here are some top reactions:

FC Barcelona will return to action on Sunday when they travel to face Valencia in La Liga. However, the Blaugrana will begin gearing up for May 8 when they welcome Atletico Madrid at the Camp Nou in what could be a title defining clash in La Liga.
