Argentina icon, Lionel Messi is widely considered to be the greatest player in the history of the sport, with the striker winning numerous professional and individual honours, including a record six Ballon d'Or awards.
Messi recently finally won his first major international trophy with Argentina as he led the La Albiceleste to their first Copa America title since 1993, with the striker leading from the front - scoring four goals and five assists to be named as the "Player of the Tournament".
AC Milan legend and former Napoli manager, Gennaro Gattuso has hailed the 34-year-old - revealing that Messi has silenced his haters by winning the Copa America and that he is still the best ever even if he did not win a title with the national team.
“Messi silenced his haters by winning the Copa América. Now no one can say that Messi hasn’t won a title with Argentina. He’s the best ever even if he hadn’t won a title with his national team."
The 34-year-old's performances over the past season has led to many to tip him to win another Ballon d'Or award, as he was brilliant for Barcelona despite the Catalan giants having a poor 2020/21 season.
The players future at the Nou Camp though still remains uncertain as the club are yet to register him for the upcoming season, despite reports emerging that he has agree to a new five-year deal with the club.
