Paris Saint-Germain superstar Lionel Messi is aware how hard it is to win the Champions League, with the Argentine admitting even the 'slightest detail' can eliminate a team and that the best team doesn't always emerge as the victors.

PSG, who signed Messi in the summer, are seen as one of the favourites to win the Champions League this season, and the French outfit put one foot in the quarter-finals with a 1-0 win over Real Madrid in the round-of-16 first leg.

Expectations on PSG are very high this season, and, with the squad they have, it would be a disappointment if they failed to emerge as the European champions this season.

Messi reveals PSG are excited and keen to achieve the European glory, but stressed that the 'best team doesn't always win' the Champions League. "Winning the Champions League is difficult. It's where the best [teams and players] compete; the slightest detail can eliminate you," Messi told PSG's official magazine [via Marca].

He added: "Big clubs and teams are in the mix. We have the team to give it a go. We're excited and keen to achieve it, but we have to remain calm.

"In the Champions League the best team doesn't always win, and you have to pay attention to all the details; the strong teams are the ones who meet their targets."
