Argentina icon, Lionel Messi is widely considered to be the greatest player in the history of the sport, with the striker winning numerous professional and individual honours during his career so far, including a record seven Ballon d'Or awards.
Messi recently was awarded the 2021 Ballon d'Or honour, beating the likes of Bayern Munich hitman, Robert Lewandowski and Chelsea midfielder, Jorginho for the award, and now the 34-year-old's votes for the Kopa Trophy have been revealed.
The striker unsurprisingly gave his vote for Barcelona youngster, Pedri who scooped the prestigious prize ahead of Borussia Dortmund's, Jude Bellingham and Bayern's, Jamal Musiala. Messi who was able to vote considering that he is the captain of Argentina, gave three points for Pedri, two for Paris Saint-Germain full-back Nuno Mendes and one for Bellingham, as per Diario Sport.
The player for his part looked absolutely delighted when the Spaniard was announced as the winner at the Ballon d’Or ceremony and received some words of thanks from the youngster in his speech.
“Thanks to everyone at Barça, all my coaches, all my teammates, especially the captains, who made it all easier - like Lionel Messi, who is here, thank you for all the help you gave me. I dedicate this award to my family, who always gave me advice," Pedri said at the Ballon d'Or ceremony on Monday.
Pedri will show off his Kopa Trophy to the Camp Nou crowd before Saturday’s La Liga match against Real Betis, while Alexia Putellas will also present her Women’s Ballon d’Or trophy to the crowd.
